Fabulous Fabric: Jelly Rolls

Click here to go back to my Blogger’s Quilt Festival post when you’ve read about jelly rolls

I’ve written before about sewing with Jelly Rolls and I have to admit I LOVE them! They look like this when you buy them:
Shop for jelly rolls at the Fat Quarter Shop here.

That cute swirl includes 40 strips of fabric cut 2.5 inches wide across the width of the fabric (approx. 44 inches). So its a LOT of fabric, pre-cut for you ready to use. The original Jelly Roll is made by Moda fabrics, but there are now similar fabric bundles out there under other names. I love the look of scrap quilts with lots of different fabrics in them, but I’m not confident in choosing the fabrics to go together – this way the choosing is done for me!

When you unroll them you get strips like this. These ones I have divided up into 4 colour groups getting ready to make a quilt. Often there are fabrics within the roll that are the same pattern but in a different colour.

What to make with them? Well, I have used patterns by Pam and Nicky Lintott the most. They have written a couple of books now with clear instructions and great photos. There are also patterns on the Moda Bake Shop website.
