My mum is an accomplished seamstress.
I still have these formal dresses in my cupboard that she made for me…
No, I haven’t worn them for a while,
but they are still in my cupboard!
I can remember shopping for fabric or clothes with her as a teenager
and somehow she just seemed to know how much fabric was needed to make something.
Now that I sew a little myself, I realise how useful that skill would be!
So I was immediately excited to see this post over at ikat bag
where she explains how to calculate fabric in your head – just like mum does!

I wish I could pay someone to come to my home and teach me how to sew. My Dad is an upholsterer, but I don't think he could teach me. He might not have enough patience for that!
