Knitting Projects for next Winter

by Tonya Grant |Filed Under: Knitting Tagged With: Books, Fishpond, Winter Get a Weekly Update of all Articles

A little while ago as it started to get warmer here in Queensland, I wrote a post about the crochet projects I wanted to make before next Winter. Lately I’ve also been seeing knitting projects that I want to have a try at too, so here’s my bookmarking for when the weather gets cooler again.

When I found the cowl above, the maker had used a book and adjusted the pattern. That lead me over to Fishpond to check out books. Oh my! I could easily add any of these to my library.

I knit all year round! Last night I was knitting a cotton baby blanket, the night before a wool/nylon baby jumper. Both days had been 33*C here. Socks, beanies and children’s wear can be knitted in summer – of course, a good fan or air-conditioning helps! LOL (I used neither in the last couple of days)

I have still been crocheting, Lynne, but it’s only 27C here yet. I want to make another shawl but I know it will be hot on my lap as it grows so I’m thinking not yet.

I knit year round as well. I live in Arizona where we can get to way over 100 degrees during the summer. I have never found the heat to stop me…just sit where the air conditioner hits me.
I borrowed an idea from the “pocket pillow quilt” that someone made my mother years ago. I made a knit version in a small kid-size. I finished one and have several more to make for my grandkids.
I wanted to make these because the little ones seem to always get cold in worship services (while I sit and fan myself). When they don’t need them for warmth, they can sit on them and when they get cold they simply pull the blanket out of it’s attached pocket and no more cold.
P.S. I use super bulky yarn with size 15 knitting needles. Makes them go extremely fast and they turn out so soft.

They sound great, April. When it gets hotter here I’ll use the air con, so I might start knitting again then.
