I’ve been admiring other people’s necklaces.
Often surreptitiously in shopping centres and other public places.
Necklaces like this one made of buttons – lots of buttons!
So I made one!
I bought a bag of coordinated buttons from Spotlight and used some embroidery floss I already had. I didn’t have the jewellery fixings that were recommended in the video, so I made do with a couple of silver slip rings and some thin ribbon repurposed from a T-shirt. I also threaded my buttons a little differently. But I was originally inspired by the video below – I just made a few changes as I went along!
It was a lovely afternoon of playing with buttons. Now I’m itching to make a second one in reds.
You can find this fabulous tutorial at Nikki McGonigal’s blog, Nikki in Stitches
Oooh I LOVE button necklaces!! I never even thought of making my own… must add this to my to-do list!!
It didn’t take long, Alyce. I expected to play with it longer…
Beautiful necklace Tonya!!
Thanks Jill. I’m wondering whether I will show it off at Blogopolis later in the year…
This looks great Tonya!
I think I will have to make on for myself
It’s so funky, I’d be doing a green one next I reckon!
Oh good idea – I do love green!
LOVE this! What a great idea, thanks for sharing.
Thanks Becky!
Found you on Sugar Bee. This is super cute!
Thanks! Off to visit you now…
Love the blue button necklace, to cute!
Thanks Kimberley. It was quick and easy too
Tonya- this is right up my alley! I’m always looking for new “bobbles” to wear- but a lot of the designer stuff can get expensive. I imagine you could easily make drop earrings to match! What a great idea- and your blog is lovely!
Thanks for stopping by, Kayla. I thought about earrings too.
I wasn’t quick enough for this week, Kayla, but I’ll try to remember for next week
Tonya!
I’m so flatter by your sweet words about my button necklace!
And yours is FABULOUS!
I love it!
Thanks so much for giving Nikki, In Stitches a shout out, too!
XOXO
Hi Nikki, Your tutorial was so easy to follow! Thank you for sharing it.
Verry pretty! I say a tangerine and gold combination would be pretty, and a navy and green. Thanks for sharing at Handmade Tuesdays.
Oh I like the idea of navy and green – I wear that combo a lot!
What a great idea! My littlest is teething at the moment and that would be great bling to wear and not worry about him trying to chew on.
