Buttons instead of Beads

I’ve been admiring other people’s necklaces.

Often surreptitiously in shopping centres and other public places.

Necklaces like this one made of buttons – lots of buttons!

So I made one!

I bought a bag of coordinated buttons from Spotlight and used some embroidery floss I already had. I didn’t have the jewellery fixings that were recommended in the video, so I made do with a couple of silver slip rings and some thin ribbon repurposed from a T-shirt. I also threaded my buttons a little differently. But I was originally inspired by the video below – I just made a few changes as I went along!

It was a lovely afternoon of playing with buttons. Now I’m itching to make a second one in reds.

You can find this fabulous tutorial at Nikki McGonigal’s blog, Nikki in Stitches

What other colours should I make?

Tonya- this is right up my alley! I’m always looking for new “bobbles” to wear- but a lot of the designer stuff can get expensive. I imagine you could easily make drop earrings to match! What a great idea- and your blog is lovely!

Thanks for stopping by, Kayla. I thought about earrings too.

Verry pretty! I say a tangerine and gold combination would be pretty, and a navy and green. Thanks for sharing at Handmade Tuesdays.

Oh I like the idea of navy and green – I wear that combo a lot!

What a great idea! My littlest is teething at the moment and that would be great bling to wear and not worry about him trying to chew on.
