Joining Crochet

crochet hexagon

I have LOTS of hexagons finished! I’ve been taking them everywhere – soccer, swimming, school – so I have gradually piled them up. I need to work out how to join them together to make a blanket. So I did a little online research to find out how to do that…

joining crochet granny squares

I turned to Attic24, one of my favourite crochet blogs. As I expected she has a couple of posts on how to join them. My favourite is the step-by-step explanation of how to join your crochet squares (or in my case hexagons) as you go. I wish I had looked at this before I made about 50 of them!!

Luckily Attic24 also has a tutorial to join them when you have a pile of 50 hexagons (or squares). She joins them using a crochet needle and slip stitches. Her pictures make it look easy! {Click on the pictures to go to the tutorials.}

The alternate method is to stitch them together with a wool needle. You can watch a video on this over at CraftyMinx.

While you’re over there, check out the rest of her fabulous Crochet School – wow! Another series of posts I wish I had seen earlier!

So now that I’ve read all about it, I just need to spend a couple of evening joining my hexagons. Stay tuned!

    When joining crotchet squares(not sure about hexagons) it’s easy to slip stitch together with the crotchet hook.You get a really neat and tidy finish that’s strong.Happy crotcheting :o)

    Oh. So very cool. I’m wanting to do some hexagons someday. Have to finish joining my current project first. Your colours are lovely. Although I only got a glimpse of them on my dashboard. For some strange reason I can never see any picture when I go to your blog. It’s wierd and doesn’t happen anywhere else. Humph. I can’t see al your pretties. Wah.

      Thanks, Caitlyn, but I’m concerned that you can’t see my pictures! Maybe they don’t load fast enough? Do they load if you refresh the page? Just curious… I’ll look into it, though. Thanks for letting me know.

    I love the colours! Be sure to show and tell when you have joined a few. This weather is perfect for crochet.

    I find joining as I go works best but, when in your situation, I prefer the crochet hook over the sewing needle – it’s all that threading of the needle that can become monotonous.

    You are my hero!!! I did the same thing – I have a large pile of finished hexagons (I only had time to do one or two at a time because I have a new baby) I finally finished all my colour combinations and realised I had no way to join them – I was looking for days!! Until I found you 🙂 THANKYOU SO MUCH!!!! xxx

      You are very welcome, Aimee!

      Now you can join a few at a time between looking after your new (and gorgeous, I’m sure) baby ;o)
