December 1st has come around again and we have put up our Christmas tree. I love this day! Family time with the kids and carols playing in the background. Excited voices as they find decorations they remember. All the fun of setting up the tree and hanging up the ornaments. Telling stories about where each ornament came from. Creating memories.
We have an Advent calendar that we use each year as well. It has little boxes which they open each day to find magnets that create the nativity scene by Christmas Day. But this year I’m creating a new advent memory as well. Each day we will unwrap a new Christmas book to read together. Some of these are classics and others are fun TV characters. Some of them are centred around the Christian Christmas message while others are more about secular Christmas celebrations. It has taken me a while to collect all the titles and there are still some that I’m waiting on in the mail but the kids are very excited.
The first book is this gorgeous one by Francesca Crespi called The Nativity. It is a beautiful pop-up book that my friend Angela from Belle Images recommended. A perfect way to start our advent books! The pictures are detailed and remind me of medieval illuminated manuscripts. (Yes, I love old books too.) The text is a simple version of the Christmas story but the pictures are the focus.

I will publish a post a day about our Advent books as we go through December as well as a complete list of the books on Christmas Day.
