One of the items that came out of storage at our place last weekend was this Christmas stitchery. It is only about 40cm square so it hangs just inside our front door under a mirror that is there. I finished it about the same time I was learning to free motion quilt on my sewing machine and made this Christmas Star Hanging, so I look at the quilting now and cringe a little. But I love the sentiment of the stitchery in the centre: All Hearts Come Home for Christmas.
We go home for Christmas and I know my Mum looks forward to that time with the kids staying at her house – despite how noisy and excited they can get! I suppose I understand that even more now as a mother myself as I think ahead to the one day when my own kids will hopefully come home for Christmas from wherever they are living.
The central stitchery was a printed picture on linen which I don’t really remember buying so it must have been ages ago. I stitched it with simple back-stitch over the lines. The coloured printed sections give it enough extra interest. For a long time it sat stitched but unfinished, until I added the Christmas fabric borders and made it into a hanging. This would be a good type of piece to practice quilting on.

That’s an adorable holiday wall hanging. You may have a few complaints, but I think it looks great! 😉
