Check out the gorgeous covered coat hangers my Mum made for me, and find a collection of tutorials to cover coat hangers in other ways.
Last week I had a birthday and one of my gifts was these coat hangers. I was thrilled! Really! I needed some more padded coat hangers for my wardrobe and these are handmade by my Mum. They are knitted using yarn and a particular type of lace to create the ruffles. She even covered the metal hangers with tubing so they match.
If you want to try these you can find a free pattern over at Ravelry. There are also lots of other types of free covered coat hanger patterns around so I’ve collected some of the best. Click on the pictures or the descriptions to find the patterns on the original web sites.
This crochet tutorial from Karen M Anderson is easy enough for a beginner

I made my daughter a whole pile of covered coat-hangers a while ago. I used the eyelet lace for some. They are quick & easy to make.

Hi. I would like to make some for smaller children but can’t find a pattern for this. How do I get one please?
Trudie @ My Vintage Childhood says
Awesome, I love these. They are a vintage loving girls best friend for protecting delicate old fabrics and garments. Will definitely be sharing this.

My Mum has made many lace covered hangers over the years, but we like the smaller size hangers done with the ‘baby’ colors and given as a the birth present. Boy or girl, they both have clothes that need hanging and they last for so long.

Great idea, Lee! They would make a lovely gift

Hi Judith,
Next time I visit Mum I’ll take a picture of the lace before it is knitted into the coathanger so you can get a better idea of what it will look like on the roll. Hopefully that will help you find it!
Have a great day,
Tonya

I have a ball of wool that looks like the colour of your coat hanger so I just have to try & find that colour edge on some lace, what colour would you call it
Tonya Grant says
The edging on mine is a dark green

Tonya I have looked everywhere for eyelet knitting lace like the pretty lace on your 2 coat hangers but no luck, I have looked in 5 different $2 shops near where I live & they don’t sell the lace anymore, I have tried 2 Spotlight shops & only one sells the lace but sadly none of either colour like the hangers in your photo. I guess I will have to forget about doing them

Does anyone have a knitted clown wire coat hanger pattern? The clown’s hat is knitted over the hook in a pixie style. It has a frilly collar and the knitting covers all hanger. Clowns face has two stick on eyes, nose & mouth embroidered on.
