A friend of mine did her first day as a ‘real’ teacher yesterday. So exciting! She will be a great teacher. She loves kids, is really energetic and has worked so hard on her studies while looking after a home and family. She was very fortunate to pick up a job immediately at the school where all of our kids attend so she can easily drop her kids each day before heading to her own class. A dream situation for a working mum!
Being so excited for her, I couldn’t resist a little surprise in her new pigeonhole at the end of the day. I put together a little teacher gift: “The ‘Real’ Teacher Mini Survival Kit”.
One of my favourite pencil cases was filled with:
- some pencils
- some pens
- a glue stick
- some coffee sachets
- and some lollies.
If I had been shopping with a plan I could also have included:
- chocolate
- a small ruler
- pencil sharpener
- erasers
- stickers
- a ‘star’ stamp – so she can give out stars! (I remember my teacher stamping stars on our work as kids – do you?)
- a USB stick
- small packet of tissues
- small bottle of antibacterial hand cleaner
- baby wipes – although I might need a bigger pencil case for all these!
You could also add a matching coin purse for emergency Tuckshop money. This would be a great Teacher Appreciation gift as well.
The pencil case is one of the many available in my Shop here and on Madeit.

What a great (thoughtful) idea
