UFO Challenge for July

We’re into July so I’m a little behind in sharing my UFO Challenge pick. Have you picked your UFO to finish this month?

As I shared the other day, I didn’t get my June UFO done so I’m still working on it. I also have a huge pile of half-finished coin purses and pencil cases for my Shop. My goal for this month is to finished these off. That means adding interfacing to the pencil cases and wadding to the coin purses. Then I need to add zippers and sew them up.

This is a great project for this month as it coincides with two other things going on in my world.

First I am taking Jess Van Den’s Set Up Shop course this month. This is a month-long course delivered by email where she goes through the steps to set up your handmade shop and make the most of it. I know I already have an online shop (more than one actually!) but I have muddled through so far working things out as I went along. This course has made me reassess things step by step in the hope of improving my shops. I think what I’m loving most is that I can read the emails whenever I get a chance and if I’m busy one day, I catch up the next day. It has really got me thinking about I can improve things.

The second thing that is exciting is the upgrades on Madeit.com.au. When I was ready to set up a shop, I tossed up between Etsy and Madeit. I chose Madeit because it is Australian and I liked the idea of supporting an Australian handmade community. But I was a little frustrated when I learnt that it didn’t have all the features that Etsy had. I hoped it was just a matter of time and I was right! This week Bec, Jayc and their team have released a makeover to the site. They have made some things work better and other things are completely new features. Now you can shop as a Guest without creating an account. Now I can offer coupon codes on my store. (Sign up to my Newsletter to get one for Free shipping this month!) This is a great time to be reassessing my Madeit shop as there are lots of visitors checking things out.

But what about you?

Have you chosen your UFO to work on in July? If you’d like to join in the UFO Challenge, you can read more in this post or sign up for email news below. There are only a couple of emails a month to share our progress. I’m thinking about setting up a Facebook group too – would anyone join in on Facebook?

Let me know in the comments what you’re going to work on this month, and whether you’d be interested in a UFO Challenge Facebook group.

I am finishing off a big pile of bibs this month that have had the cotton fronts cut out since before we moved, so ages! So they need matching fleece, sewing, topstitching and snaps adding.

I’m going to try and get my dinosaur top quilted. I’ve got to work out how to do dinosaur feet!
