One of the things I love about going to Creative Craft Retreat each year is seeing the different projects that people bring to work on. Often the projects are things that people have been working on for years and don’t get to work on very often. It is not unusual to hear people saying that they have meaning to finish this item for ages but life as has gotten too busy for them to find time to craft. So it has been put aside for later. Craft Retreat seems to be the perfect place to pull out those projects and work on them uninterrupted for a while weekend.
These blankets are being made by the lovely Bron. She explained to me that her son has dubbed them the Never Never Blankets. He is a teenager now and Bron has been working on his blanket since he was much younger so he says they are “never” going to be finished! She laughs as she explains. She can see why he thinks that!
But really the blankets are an ongoing labour of love. Bron started with a store-bought blanket that each of the kids used in the car when they were younger and travelled regularly. She is gradually adding all kinds of memories to each blanket. There are parts of their favourite clothes, badges from uniforms, baby socks and ribbons they’ve won. She says that every item that she sews on has a story. I love that idea!
The Never Never Blankets might never, never be finished but I love the idea of these memory blankets growing slowly and recording the achievements of these talented children. Thanks, Bron, for letting me share them!

Hi CraftyMummy,
Love what you had shared from your retreat. It is so true of most crafters who are so passionate but find very little time. Just like me – I have a ‘Never Never Crossstitch’ – one cross-stitch piece that had been lying around for years and never never finished ! I have meant it to be completed and hung up in my living hall…*feeling guilty* 😉
