I’m so excited to finally share my Angry Birds Star Wars quilt! This is made using the newest pattern from the Fat Quarter Shop, called the Fat Quarter Fizz Quilt. It is made with a pack of fat quarters – you kinda guessed that, didn’t you? – and I chose to go with the Angry Birds fabric for my 8-year-old, Mr Happy. He was pretty keen for me to get this one finished!
This quilt has taken a week or so to complete without pushing so it would be a great quilt for a quick gift from a experienced quilter, or an easy quilt for a beginner to start with. The sewing is all straight lines and the cutting is quite simple.
Variations on the Pattern
My quilt is slightly smaller than the pattern because I only had 14 fat quarters to play with instead of 20. I arranged my blocks into three rows instead of four and added three extra units, one onto to each row. The finished size of my quilt is approximately 55″ x 55″ (140cm x 140cm).
My quilting is simple straight lines in variegated blue cotton. The backing print is possibly my favourite print of all the fabrics. I was very tempted to use the backing fabric as the template for quilting – it would be great to finish it by following the white lines around the boxes.
I have had so much fun making this quilt. Angry Birds are fun and Star Wars is so iconic that I couldn’t resist some pictures on my Instagram feed. We had “Quilt Wars” between the Lego guys who were arguing over who was going to get the quilt! When I had to get out the “quick unpick” tool for a dodgy seam “the Force was with me” {wink}.

The gorgeous stack of fat quarters also appeared recently over at And Sew We Craft for Weekend Stacks, and snuck into this post as well: The Crafty Life
I even shared a shot of this quilt being basted for Create & tThrive’s #ctmonthinthelife photo a day series. (Yes, there is a poor Lego guy who has lost his head down there!)

The Angry Birds Star Wars fabric also came from the Fat Quarter Shop.
Disclosure: I was invited to try out this pattern and received a bundle of fabric from the Fat Quarter Shop to use for this project. (How could I say no!?) This is not a sponsored post and all opinions are my own.
A bunch of other quilters have also made this quilt in different fabrics so pop over and check them out:

Such a fun use of these fabrics! I have piles of FQS of themed fabric and I love how this pattern is a step up from big framed 10in squares but still let’s the fabric shine. I will look for you IG, such fun posts!
