Every year I have a fabulous weekend away at Creative Craft Retreat. Yes – a whole weekend from Friday night to Sunday afternoon to take a class or work on a project! Bliss!
This retreat is aimed at giving creative women the chance to spend a weekend with each other. We go out to Lake Perseverance, about an hour from Toowoomba in South East Queensland, a beautiful site with share cabins and a couple of big spaces where we can leave our projects set up even during meal times. I have helped out a little on this for a couple of years, sometimes teaching a class, sometimes being the Mistress of Ceremonies, sometimes singing a song or playing the piano. I basically pitch in where I’m needed while the hard work is done by Janelle Yeomans, an artist and creative magazine writer.
This year there are five classes happening – cake decorating, quilting, tatting, card making and embroidery. The cake class has filled up quickly but Val always has gorgeous embroidery projects, and Di’s quilting class is looking popular too. You can always choose to do your own thing as well and probably about half of the ladies choose this every year so we see everything from crochet to scrapbooking, knitting to painting happening over the weekend.
I’m still deciding what I will work on the for the weekend, but at this stage I’m thinking it might be a scrappy star quilt from the class I’m taking over at Stitched in Color. A couple of years ago I made most of my favourite Christmas quilt so I know it can be a great chance to really focus on a quilt top.
There is also plenty of time to chat to people. There are friends that I haven’t seen all year that I know will be there so I’m looking froward to catching up. There are also some ladies who come to chat and read all weekend rather than crafting, and that’s great.
On Sunday we have a short guest speaker and this year it is a fellow blogger, Caitlin from Caitlin’s Happy Heart. She is an amazing mum of 5 kids including triplets, so I’m really looking forward to listening to more of her story.
If you’d like to join us, we’d love to see you!
Registrations are open now online here, and you can get all the information about the venue and classes here. If you have any question, don’t hesitate to ask, either here, on the Creative Craft Retreat website or on our Facebook page.
