Sewing: Money Bags

Sewing Money Bags

If you’ve been following my blog for a little while you will have heard me mention Tuckshop before. I often drop in and help in my kids’ school Tuckshop as a volunteer and I love it. The ladies are all other mums so I catch up on the school news. The work is easy and I feel like I’m contributing to a service that many families in our community would miss if it was unavailable.

I often help process orders and count money, but the Tuckshop convenor is the one who has to lug all that money to the bank at the end of each day. It must be tiresome, especially recently when the cloth money bags provided the bank have gone walkabout!

So when I had a few minutes last week I dug out the leftover upholstery fabric from this chair cushion and made a couple of simple zippered bags for her to use on the bank runs. I basically just made them as I would make pencil cases or coin purses but without the interfacing and adjusting the size to be about the size of an A4 sheet of paper.

A quick project that I know will get lots of use!

Have you ever helped out at your kids Tuckshop or canteen? Did you enjoy it?
