You may have seen my latest quilting project on social media in the last week or so. (Before I put it aside to work on my quick lacy crochet wrap.)
Yes, I finished one quilt project and immediately started another one!
But how could I resist when I had won such gorgeous fabric from Peta at She Quilts a Lot?! The fabric is Gooseberry by Vanessa Goertzen for Moda and I won a charm pack. It is a lovely mix of navy, red, pink and aqua so I divided my charms into those four groups to make a mini quilt.
I decided to start a project from an ebook I had sitting on my iBookshelf: Seams like Scrappy by Rebecca Silbaugh. Every project in this book is designed to make with fat quarters or pre-cuts, and there is a range of things from full size bed quilts to smaller mini quilts.
I’m working on a quilt called Bitsy. It will only be 32″ x 32″ when finished and started with charm squares. So far there has been a lot of joining and cutting, then joining and cutting again so my squares are getting very small. But small is cute, right?
This lovely is still in progress as I said but I’m already looking at some of the other patterns in the book for later.
There is a great section of basics to get a beginners started then each of the quilt patterns has lovely clear photos and step-by-step instructions with diagrams for the piecing. I love that they even go to the detail of telling you whether to press the seams open or to the side, as this can make such a difference to the bulk in a small quilt. There are also plenty of scrappy tips scattered through the book from how to choose fabric and work out placement to encouragement to try fabrics you may not have tried otherwise.
Click on the book cover above to go to Amazon and find the “Look Inside” button to see how great the patterns are in this book. I would definitely recommend it to beginners and experienced quilters looking for some quick quilting ideas.
