Look! Borders!
I was so excited to add some borders to this lovely quilt yesterday.
You may have spotted the borders “in the making” a couple of weeks back on Instagram.
They were pieced one day.
Then a while later I decided I would need black as well.
Finally I actually stitched them together. I added another black border around the outside too.
The black borders are more jelly roll strips so they are cut 2.5″ and 2″ finished. The rainbow borders are made with scraps from the star triangles.
On two side there are 10 squares of colour. On the other two sides, I added an extra block on each end of the strips so they are 12 squares using 11 colours. I lined up my colours in rainbow order – of course! – and then made my rainbows flow around the square.
In my non-quite-accurate maths, all the squares should have matched up perfectly to create 2″ squares when stitched together. But sadly I forget to remember that the original half-square triangle blocks in the star would not have been 2″ squares finished after all. Sigh.
Still I can live with the not-all-squares rainbow border.
Next step? Backing and quilting.
Stay tuned…

WOW! That’s a gorgeous quilt … and you’re almost finished! I plan to start a quilt for my mom this weekend, but I have lots of other plans outdoors, too. So I don’t know how much I’ll get done. I love the batiks you’ve used in your quilt. Really nice!

This is so beautiful, but I keep trying to look for the dimensions but I can’t find them. Sorry if I keep missing them. Love the colors!
