Crochet Blanket with Patons Inca

by Tonya Grant |Filed Under: Crochet Get a Weekly Update of all Articles

crochet blanket Patons Inca

A few months back I was sent a lovely package from Australian Country Spinners. They had sent me a couple of sample balls of Patons Inca yarn to play with and some beautiful pattern books. So I started playing with the yarn and the suggested easy Crochet Slippers pattern from the Inca Home book.

But my heart wasn’t in it. Sigh. Slippers just weren’t for me.

What I really wanted to make was another snuggly crochet blanket from this gorgeous soft snuggly yarn! The Patons Inca is 50% Pure New Wool, 30% Acrylic and 20% Alpaca and is just beautiful to touch and work with. (I cannot wait for my blanket to be large enough to cover my knees as I crochet!)

So I gave up the slippers – I know! another UFO! – and went shopping. Luckily for me Inca was on special that week at my local Lincraft so I didn’t even feel guilty about buying some. I bought 3 colours for this blanket: Scarlet – #7040, Light Taupe – #7039, and Stormy Blue – #7046.  The pattern is a free one I found online: Alternating V Shell Afghan by Handcrafting with Love. It is easy but interesting and is growing quite quickly with this nice thick yarn. The section you can see in the photo is already 22cm (almost 9″) deep with only 13 rows.

I’ll share more progress as I go along but I can tell already that I’m going to love this project. If you love it too, keep an eye out for it finished – it will possibly go on sale at Handmade Highstreet as it is intended to be a baby size rug.

Disclosure: Australian Country Spinners sent me the lovely pack pictured above to sample. They did not ask for a review and I wasn’t paid to review anything. The extra yarn for my blanket was purchased by me. All opinions are my own.

Gorgeous colour combination and what a cute crochet hook. I used to knit and crochet a lot before kids and then it fell by the wayside as life got too busy. I’m starting to get the itch again…and looking at and reading blog posts like this make the itch stronger. I think it’s time I dragged out my supplies and went shopping 🙂

I’m finding these blankets are great to do while I sit with the kids, and a lovely relaxing thing to do after the kids go to bed too.

Man, I really want to learn. I hear it’s easy and I adore seeing the beautiful blankets you can make. I just scored a cracker at Vinnies, but I bet the satisfaction of schnuggling under one you’ve made is double!

Yep! There is double satisfaction in knowing you made the snuggly blanket! And you get to snuggle under it as you make it too ;o)

      Hi Natasha,

I used a 6mm hook, which is a 10/J in the US and a 4 in the UK.

      Hope that helps,
      Tonya
