Library Bags

library bags

School has gone back for my kids and one of the things they use each year are their library bags. When they started I made a couple of simple bags for them and they still use them each week to bring home books to read.

So when a friend asked if I could make a couple for her, I knew it would be a fun quick project to get me back to the sewing machine.

As you can probably guess, there is one for a girl and one for a boy here. The fabrics came out of my stash – some pretty butterflies and cool robots.

It was great to pull out my overlocker again too – it hasn’t seen much use lately! Even though I won’t use it often, I love the fact then when I do it is quick to set up and sews beautifully. I have a Babylock Evolution which was not cheap but totally worth it.

While these bags will be popping off to their new home later today, you can find the tutorial to make your own here: Library Bag Tutorial. They use only about half a metre of fabric and are a generous size to accommodate large picture books. You may want to adjust the length of the shoulder strap for younger children so that they don’t drag on the ground.

What have you been sewing lately? I’d love to see a picture over on my Facebook page: http://facebook.com/craftymummy

Lovely — I especially like the butterflies.

How do you think tote bags made with quilting cotton and polar fleece (no wadding) would go?
