What is Crafting to You?

What is Crafting to You FB

A couple of weeks ago I asked my Weekly News readers about their crafting. I was curious to hear about what they were thinking and learn a little more about this lovely community. Today I thought I’d share some of their answers.

I liken crafting to oxygen – I really can’t do without it.
If work, family or chores doesn’t allow a bit of crafting in a day, I must review Instagram and Pinterest to satisfy the need.
Crafting and making helps ‘release’ the ideas in my head. It makes me happy and calm and if I am making it for someone that happiness is usually doubled.

Crafting is my way of shutting the world out letting my creativity out. It’s wonderful
people like you who have used their God-given talents to bless others.

Crafting is my “me time”, my relaxation and creative time.  I enjoy all crafts and am always looking for cute and unique things to create.  I love sewing and quilting most of all.

Quilting is my favourite craft, and one of my uni friends got me started. Four of us were chatting during a break in lectures and one girl mentioned she’d watched ‘How to make an American quilt’ on the TV the previous night. Someone else said – “Hey, we should do that!” and before I knew it we were visiting a quilting shop, buying a kit and getting a crash course in quilting from the store owner on how to hand sew a quilt! It took the four of us 2.5 years to sew the first quilt, and I don’t think we ever finished the second, but my interest was piqued and I’ve loved quilting ever since, although I now tend to go for the machine-sewn variety!!

For me:

Crafting is my chance to escape a little and get creative – and it can be that thing that gives me balance and perspective in my busy life of working, running a household and being a Mum.

For me it’s pleasure, relaxation and “me time”. And a source of satisfaction, when other people like it, buy it, wear it.
