Watercolour Gift Cards

It was time to give some gifts here at Crafty HQ. Naturally, I needed to whip up some quick crafty gift tags and cards to go with them!

A while back I did a course on freestyle calligraphy and since then I’ve been playing around with brush pens and watercolour paints. This seemed the perfect opportunity to  create some watercolour gift cards.

I started with basic white card stock – the kind you buy in large packs at a stationery store like printer paper. You could just as easily use watercolour paper if you like but I’m a big believer in using what I have on hand and this was it.

Using my watercolour paint palette and a water brush pen, I created some blended colour wash backgrounds. You can learn more about how to do this in this class on Skillshare.

You can see that I used one half of the card lengthways and a mix of two different colors.

Once it was dry, I cut each sheet into three sections. If I had measured they would’ve been the same but mine are all different and that’s okay. I used a paper trimmer from my scrapbooking supplies.

I folded each card in half then grabbed a black Pentel brush tip sign pen and added “thank you” on each one.

Simple and done.

These watercolour gift cards are large enough to write a little note to someone when you want to really personalise a gift.

For my small gift tags, I used another sheet of A4 cardstock and created a wash with the watercolour paints in three sections.

After this dried, I used a large tag punch to punch out shapes, lining the punch up with the watercolour wash.

I love the way that each tag is a little different from the others.watercolour-tags

Again I use my Pentel brush tip sign pen to add a “thank you” in modern brush script. I learnt to write like this from a class with Liss Letters, and recently did another class for Bounce Letters.

These cards were truly ‘in between’ projects. The watercolour wash was done one night as I waited for dinner to cook. Then another night during that same dinner prep time, I spent a few minutes cutting and folding and writing the calligraphy. It was so exciting to find a way to squeeze in a little crafting while life is so super busy!
