tag along teddies bear

While I was teaching my quilting class at Craft Retreat, there were two other classes running.
One was making bears with the lovely Kris. Kris has her patterns available at Tag Along Teddies. This year the class were working on Olive and Finnegan. The bears were beautiful! She also writes a blog at Tag Along Teddies.

The other class was run by Val. Val is an awfully clever lady who sells her patterns at Val Laird Designs. She also writes a blog at Journey of  a Stitcher. Val taught crochet this year and had a full class. They worked on granny squares which are great for beginners to achieve over a weekend. I think these were my favorite color combination. You can read more in her blog post.

Both these ladies have taught every year that Retreat so that is now 5 years. Teachers don’t get paid for teaching but I must say I can understand how rewarding it is to see students master a new craft in such a short time. Each year the classes are different, depending which teachers are available. There have been classes in scrapbooking, silk painting, colour theory, crazy quilting, folk art, embroidery and more. Apart from the three classes, there were 4 tables of ladies who brought their own crafts to work on. There were people working on scrapbooking, knitting, sewing, quilting, crochet, beading and painting. Some of these women bring lots of gear and stay up half the night crafting. They really seize the opportunity that they don’t get at home!

What would you work on if you could spend a whole weekend crafting or sewing?

I’m not sure what I would work on but I know it would be fun!

I’d so love a crafty retreat! Maybe one day when the kids are older. If I could got now I would definitely work on hand embroidery (and quilting) and hexagons till the wee hours, and maybe pester someone to help me crochet :-).
