Crafty Spots

Earlier in the week I took Little Miss and Mr Happy to the Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane. I had heard that the interactive displays there this school holidays were great and we weren’t disappointed. You can read about the artist, Yayoi Kusama, and the exhibition “Look Now, See Forever” in this online catalogue. The Obliteration Room was the kids’ favourite. Everyone was given a sheet of spot stickers and told to cover all the white spaces in the room. It was pretty full already but the kids had fun adding their stickers.

Stickers at home

It made me wonder how you could re-create this fun activity at home? You can buy books of stickers at lots of cheap stores. Here’s some ideas…

  • Cover a piece of furniture with stickers – maybe a toy box, a coffee table or a book case
  • Create a wall where the kids can stick their stickers. Designate a space to fill by making a frame with tape or a picture frame
  • Make a stash of wrapping paper with stickers ready for the next birthday party using a roll of plain paper or brown paper
  • Create simple birthday cards (or Valentine’s cards) with heart stickers
  • For more temporary sticker surfaces, try a window or mirror that you can clean later.
  • To cover a table temporarily, use sheets of butchers paper and tape them down, then let them stick their stickers on that.

Any suggestions to add to my list?
