Ripple Blanket Two

by Tonya Grant |Filed Under: Crochet Get a Weekly Update of all Articles

Last year I made a ripple crochet blanket for the first time. I used lots of colours and randomly did two rows of each until I had a lovely large snuggly blanket. Once I was done, though, I had a bunch of half used balls of wool left.

What to do?

Another one, of course!

For this one, I have combined all those left over bits of wool with some huge balls of cream wool that my sister-in-law gave me a few years ago. They have been waiting and waiting for the perfect project!

As my goal is to use up the extra balls, each colour is a random width depending on how much was there to use. My original blanket included some pinks and reds but I’m saving those for something else so this blanket has shades of blue, green and brown.

Some Stats:

  • Mostly Moda Vera Pure Wool 8 ply from Spotlight
  • Cream Wool also 8 ply
  • Size 4.5 hook
  • Pattern from Attic 24
  • 10 ripples wide
  • Starting chain 143

Once again I am using the pattern from Attic24. I’m actually a pretty inexperienced crocheter but Attic24 provides step-by-step pictures as well as instructions, so I found it quite easy to work out. This blanket has been keeping me warm on the couch the past few nights as I work on it, as well as going out and about to craft group and dancing lessons.

At the rate I’m going, you should see some “finished” pictures soon!

oooh you’ve inspired me, it looks gorgeous and I’ve wanted to do a ripple blanket for a couple of months now…. just need to check out that pattern and find myself some soft (not scratchy wool)

Glad to inspire. Yes, you have to find nice soft wool – what’s the point if it’s not snuggly when you’re done!?

The blanket is great. It looks so snugly. This cooler weather is perfect for crochet.

it looks great! i’m making my first ripple blanket with the skeins i had left over from my daughters first blanket but it’s just kind of for practice. i’ll be sharing progress tomorrow for WIP Wednesday. BUT i can’t wait to do more with a bit thinner wool and lots of non-baby colors, hehe. they are kind of addicting once you get going!

It is a bit addicting, isn’t it? I love that once you get the pattern straight in your head, you can take it anywhere and pick it up and work on it for a few minutes.
