Kids Craft: Car Ramps

by Tonya Grant |Filed Under: Crafts Tagged With: Kids Get a Weekly Update of all Articles

paper car ramp hot wheels

Mr Happy loves to play with cars. We have way too many around the house and I seem to step on a lot of them! But they do keep him happy for hours.

Ramps for the cars are a favourite craft for him. He often makes impromptu ramps from things around the place and drives the cars on them – and off the ends of them, too. (We’ve had to have a few talks about the marks on the walls…)

Potential ramp building materials:

  • boxes
  • cardboard
  • coffee tables
  • plastic boxes & lids
  • rulers
  • books
  • DVD cases
  • chairs
  • cushions

Hot Wheels car ramp building

The ramp in these pictures though came from a very cool Hot Wheels book. It was going cheap at the local bookstore and while I love books, I really love books that also have an activity. This one had a bunch of push out pieces that folded and slotted together to form a ramp sturdy enough to drive little cars on. Some of the pieces were a bit tricky for a 6 year old, but with some help we built it in half an hour or so. As well as three ramps, there are some little boxes to jump cars over or run cars into – fun!

Storage Tip: Pop all the pieces into a shoebox to keep them safe between playtimes.

It is also available on Fishpond for a pretty good price. (Click on the cover to see more – Affiliate link)

What else could we use to build ramps?

What do your kids use?
