The Blue Bucket

big blue bucket

Do you have a huge blue bucket at your place? You know, a bucket large enough for someone to get inside and pretend to be a bucket? You don’t?! Well, we do.

Or at least we did until we returned it yesterday. You see, I’ve been mending this huge blue bucket costume, and since it is kind of crafty and kind of clever, I thought I’d share. So if you ever need to create a huge blue bucket costume, you’ll know where to look!

This costume is the mascot for a kids holiday program at our church called Kids Games. His name is Waxy.

He is basically a large sheet of rubber foam covered in fabric with a couple of hula hoops to create the round shape. There are arm holes in the side, a couple of eye holes in his eyebrows (!), and some straps to go over the wearer’s shoulders. The original face was cardboard which I’ve just replaced with some iron on interfacing that I painted first. I had to re-glue some of the fabric as well and I’ve re-attached the top hula hoop with some ties so it can be removed for storage.

The inside shot gives you an idea of the construction. Whoever created this originally was pretty clever!

So there you have it. A big blue bucket costume. Just what you needed, hey?

Note: Kids Games is run in lots of Queensland churches this coming holidays so they are taking registrations right now. For more info go to the Kids Games Qld website.

So cute! Kids Games sounds wonderful. Our church used to run a local children’s program in the July school holidays too. I went as leader of praise and worship – my guitar and me, those were the days! I haven’t played for years!
