Fimo Beads

fimo bead necklace

Sometimes you just need a necklace that you don’t have. One that is exactly the right colour or style to match a particular outfit. Sometimes you know in your head what the perfect necklace looks like. Perhaps you’ve seen something similar online or in the shops. I’ve been needing a red necklace and I was inspired by some of the beads I have seen online to create these Fimo beads.

Fimo is a type of modelling clay that I had when I was a kid. I still have a tiny stash of unused bits in a rainbow of colours that I hadn’t touched for years. Some were too dried out to use now but I found enough red to have a play around with. I create some fairly simple beads in oval shapes. I also create a sort of leaf-shaped one to be in the centre. The holes were created with a skewer then they were baked on a tray in the oven. The instructions say you can seal them with varnish but I’m going to stick with the not so shiny look of these.

My old jewellery box produced a silver chain that just needed a clean before I added the beads. But they were hanging too close together  to look quite like I imagined. Ou came the bead stash and these black round beads were perfect spacers.

So there you have it. A new necklace  from half an hour of playing with clay!

Stunning! Absolutely gorgeous. I have never made my own jewellery and am super impressed!

Thanks Emily. I don’t think it looks anywhere near as professional as some I’ve seen online, but pretty good for my first try.

I think it looks fantastic. It would definitely get a workout in my collection, love the colours.

Thanks, Anna. We missed you this morning at the beading class but you get a mention in the bog post ;o)
