Riley Blake Doll + Giveaway

This Giveaway is now Closed.

I will be announcing the Winners very soon!

This is Annabelle. Isn’t she lovely? I’ve been making her for the last few days and couldn’t resist sharing her along the way on Facebook and Instagram, but let me tell you about her properly today. Annabelle is a Riley Blake doll made from a panel of fabric from Wrapped in Fabric. When Sandy from Wrapped in Fabric asked whether I’d like to make one of these, I jumped at the chance -and so did my Little Miss! She chose the aqua one, but there are two other colours as well – blue and grape.

The fabric panel includes the doll pieces, three dresses and a headband with flowers plus printed instructions on how to sew them all. In addition to the panel you need some ribbon or elastic for the dresses, elastic for the headband and a button for the flower centre. Usually these panels are $22 each but at the moment they are only $12 in the Riley Blake Super Sale.

The doll has one dress printed on her body and the cutest striped legs.

The sewing is easy enough for a quilter who doesn’t usually sew dolls or clothes, like me. I cut all the pieces and started with the dresses.  All three are pillow case type dresses with ribbon at the neckline. My 8 year old girl is fine with tying the ribbon, but for a younger child I would suggest use elastic instead.

The doll itself is made by sewing the limbs and body then turning them through. After the arms are stuffed with filling, they are attached to the body. Then the body and legs are stuffed and joined together. I machine stitched all of it except joining the headband joins, but you could hand sew it if you prefer.

Here are the doll pieces before I stuffed them, and the dresses before I added the ribbon. So cute!

My Tips:

  • Take your time sewing around the curves to keep them smooth
  • Carefully clip those curves before you turn the parts through
  • Use a knitting needle or crochet hook to push out the edges
  • To turn the headband strip, use a safety pin as you would when you thread elastic
  • A dab of Fray Stoppa on the ends of the ribbons will stop them fraying
  • I did a double row of stitching when I joined the limbs to the body for extra durability
  • For a really young child, leave the button off as it could be a choking hazard. Instead perhaps a large cross stitch in a contrasting colour would look nice.

Gorgeous Dolly! I love the other colours they had on their site too! Fabric wise, I think I’d go with the dress up days fabric in the orange from the Super Sale area and make a matching pillowcase dress for my girl to with the pillowcase dress on the sweet dolly….that I’m hoping to win!!!

Such a cute dolly. I have a six year old grand-daughter who is learning to sew. She would love to make a dolly. I think she would like the Jacks Green colour. Of course little hands need Nanny’s help. Thank you for the opportunity to win this.

I’ve been looking for fabric to make table cloths for the upcoming party season. The VINTAGE CHEVRON IN BLUE is ideal. It’s fun, festive and bright and I like the idea of getting away from traditional Christmas designs.

As a mum of three girls aged 8 and under
They love playing hairdressers, is it any wonder?!
So I’d buy the Dress Up Days Vintage Floral in Blue
And with it, I will tell you what I would do.
I’d make some bandannas, headbands and ties
And put them in their Christmas stockings for a pleasantsurprise!

This fabric would be lovely for the ladies bandanas im making for cancer awareness month. They are bright and fun and thats what we need to be strong!!!. I was diagnosed with breast cancer on june 21st this year. I am in wonder of all the hard work and effort people and strangers put in for this great cause. I would dearly love to give something back that gives a special person a smile ♥

Woodland Tails Panel in Green by Sheri Berry for Riley Blake. I would love to use this one to make a pillow case for little one and tell him a story about woodland friends before he goes to sleep.

I would buy Good Life Main Cream by Deena Rutter out of this collection and I would make a bowl…yes, you heard right. I am itching to try a new egg carton pulp mache technique I found which the final layer is done in fabric (heavily glued of course) and the whole bowl is rigid!. Doesn’t that sound great!
