What a fabulous weekend I’ve had! I dropped the kids at Mum’s on Friday and spent the weekend at the Creative Craft Retreat at Lake Perseverance. It wasn’t the first time I had attended but it was the first time I was teaching a class – beginner quilting. I had three lovely students and they made three different quilts. But they were quick studies, and I got to quilt a little too. All three of them left on Sunday afternoon with mostly finished quilts. Only the binding needed to be finished on each one.
Miss J’s quilt was perfect baby size. She used a set of charm squares called Just Wing it from Moda with polka dots on the back. Love the trees fully of butterflies in this fabric!
Miss D used charm squares as well but added some sashing in gorgeous purple. Her charm squares are called Hoopla also from Moda and she used the purple on the back as well. This quilt got lots of comments from other crafters on Retreat and would be great for a little girl or boy.
Miss N brought her own baby quilt design to work on and spent lots of time on very cute animal applique. She had machine stitched the shapes using a satin stitch, then added the details with hand embroidery. She also embroidered the words onto to the sashing. She found all the fabrics at Spotlight including my favourite, the animal print for the backing.
I’m so proud of my class! They were fun to spend the weekend with and their quilts are gorgeous. Well done, ladies!
More about Retreat over the next few days, so stay tuned.

Looks like fun! I was thinking of you and Miss J all weekend – I knew she was doing your quilting class and couldn’t wait to see her quilt! Lovely, and so are the other ladies’ quilts! The closest ever come to quilting is using “quilt” in Scrabble – quite satisfying if you can get the Q on a double letter score and let the rest of the word fall across the triple word score! But I digress. As usual.

Ah, Givinya, I think you need to mark the first weekend in November next year down to join us! Perhaps if you don’t want to “craft”, you can be our special guest speaker? I think you’d have those hidden talents…
Oh, I know! You could do the musical item that I had to step out of because I lost my voice on Saturday night.
