Butterfly Gift Cards

easy butterfly gift tags

These butterfly gift cards may be the easiest cards I’ve ever made! The cool silver, lavender and aqua on white card is so pretty and girly that they’d be perfect for little girls and older girls alike. I used the sewing machine to attach the butterflies which makes it very quick.

What You Need

  • blank cards – mine are business card size
  • patterned paper
  • butterfly punch
  • gel pen
  • sewing machine and thread

What To Do

  • Punch some butterflies from your patterned paper
  • Arrange on the card and stitch into place with the sewing machine
  • Add some decoration with the gel pen

Tips for Sewing on Card or Paper

  • Use an old needle that you won’t use on fabric again – the card will make it blunt
  • Practice on a scrap of paper or card and adjust the tension – if it is too tight, it can tear – especially paper
  • Don’t back-stitch as you would to start and finish stitching on fabric – it is likely to rip the card
  • Dab a little clear nail polish on the ends to stop the stitches fraying
  • Alternatively, pull the ends of the threads through to the back of your card and adhere them
  • Sew a line without any thread to create holes like perforations (like a line to tear along)
  • Adjust the stitch length for a different look
  • Use fancy embroidery stitches too
  • Contrasting thread looks great

Very pretty! I have always been hesitant to use my sewing machine for paper crafts but I think I am going to give in!
