I’m still catching up on the Craftsy free Block of the Month for 2013 class. This weekend I finished the July block – it is big! It is called a Tumbling Blocks pattern and I think the trickiest bit was the cutting. The pieces are cut using 60 degree angles which I had not done before. But with the video demonstration from Laura Nownes it was quite easy to work how to do them. Once the pieces are cut and laid out, they are joined in rows which avoids the Y-seams in the traditional piecing method. I wasn’t 100% sure of the fabrics I had chosen – they are supposed to be light, medium and dark – but they are growing on me.
The next block is an applique block but I’m not sure that I’m going to do it. I’m not that keen on applique. I’m wondering whether I will do a second version of one of the other blocks instead. Or I could slip in a block from the ModernQAL instead maybe? Hmmm… my brain is ticking…
I’m still loving the Craftsy Block of the Month. I have been able to go back and watch the videos over and over, or just watch the parts that I felt I needed to. There is quite an active forum alongside the class too which I haven’t been able to spend much time in but I know would be valuable if I could find the time.
You can find my other blocks here:
