It has been a while now since I first mentioned my standing desk. I switched to a standing desk set up for working at home over a year ago now and I still love it. I don’t always stand to work but a lot of the time I do. I find I move more, stay more motivated to work and get more done.
I’ve been meaning to tell you about the latest addition to my setup: The Level from Fluidstance.
Six months ago I had no idea what The Level was but when I was offered one to review I quickly realised it sounded awesome. I wasn’t disappointed.

The Level is a balance board specially designed for those who stand while working. The polished metal frame underneath is designed to keep you gently shifting your weight rather than standing completely still. You can balance quite evenly in a centred position, but I find I rarely stand for very long with two feet planted and my weight completely centred. Instead, I rock as I work which I’m sure is much better for my body than standing completely still.
Prior to using The Level, I was often finding that I had sore feet after a period of working at my standing desk. Now that is rarely the case. Although it is recommended that you wear shoes while you balance, I work at home in beautiful sunny Queensland so I never wear shoes inside our home. As a result, I always use The Level without shoes and it is fine.

We have a tiled floor and I don’t want to risk leaving marks so I sit The Level on a cheap square foam mat that we bought from Clark Rubber. This protects the floor. When I’m not using The Level I try to remember to flip it over so that the kids are less tempted to play with it. They can balance quite well on it, of course, but they are very tempted to rock it so much that it ends up off the edge of the mat so I try to discourage them.
I would recommend this to anyone who works regularly at a standing desk. It is lightweight enough to shift anywhere but strong enough for almost any size adult to use safely. It comes in a number of different colours and finishes, and can be ordered online from Fluidstance.
