Christmas Star Quilt

I seem to be drawn to stars in fabrics and quilts, so when I saw a pattern for this log cabin quilt with stars I knew it was on the “To Do” list. This is another of my UFOs that I mentioned over at And Sew We Craft and there a little story behind this one. I call it my Christmas Star Quilt.

Christmas for my family means heading to the Big Smoke and spending a few days with our extended families. Most of them live there so it makes sense for us to drive in and it is less than 2 hours so it’s not hard. We usually spend Christmas Day with one family and then Boxing Day with the other family. But a couple of Christmases back, both my kids and my husband got sick. With all three of them coughing, sniffling and sleeping, we couldn’t go anywhere. But I was fine so I had hours each day with all of them in bed and not much to do. Naturally, I decided to make a quilt. (I can hear all the quilters saying “of course you did!”) So for me, this quilt will always be associated with that Christmas at home.

Unfortunately the top is all pieced but it has never been quilted. One day I will get to it! The pattern is found in this Jelly Roll Quilts book by Pam & Nicky Lintott – one of my favourite quilt books. It uses a jelly roll of a range called Wildflower Serenade II by Kansas Troubles plus some extra fabric for the yellow stars, and from memory it took only a couple of days to complete.
