Winter Stitchery: Snowflake

Back before Christmas, I signed up for the Winter Stitching Club with Wild Olive. Her stuff is so cute and her tutorials are always easy to follow so I figured it would be well worth the $5. I haven’t been disappointed!

The first stitchery is this snowflake. All of the patterns are stitched on hexagons and eventually there will be a coloured fabric border added but I was just itching to share the finished stitching. I think I’ll use this blue fabric for my outer hexagon but you can see the green, red and dark blue that I’m going to use on some of the others below.

The patterns are a single page PDF file that come via email once week. There was also an initial PDF document that explained all the basics of threads, fabric and the templates for the hexagons. The instructions suggest stitching onto the linen fabric first then adding some wadding behind it. I chose to stitch through the fabric and the wadding from the start, which gave it a little more stability and means that my threads are hidden behind the heavier wadding layer so you can’t see where I have skipped across to a new spot. The back will be covered with the coloured fabric hexagon soon so all the stitching knots will be hidden.

If you click on the Winter Stitching Club Logo you can find the sign up page over at Wild Olive. Last I looked you could still join in so if you’d like some simple stitching, pop over and sign up.
