Party Ideas: Garden Party

garden party flower cake jelly beans

Remember the Garden Party I wrote about last week? I shared the crafts that the kids made – Egg Carton Bugs – but there were lots of other cool things that I thought I might share in case you ever want to create a Garden Party at your place.

Cakes

With two boys and a girl there were three cakes at this party.

The cake above was the ‘pretty  girly’ cake with jelly beans to create the flowers. Some of the jelly beans were cut in half first, and some of the leaves were jelly beans cut lengthways. The pale green icing around the sides suggested grass. You could also use desiccated coconut dyed with green food colouring for grass.

The two boys had Oreo Mint Dirt Trifle instead of cakes. Yum! The ingredients included chocolate brownie (crumbled), Oreo biscuits (crumbled), whipped cream with peppermint flavouring, sour worm lollies and mint leaves.

Other Party Food

  • Butterfly bread – slices of bread cut in butterfly shapes with a cookie cutter then buttered and sprinkled with 100s & 1000s
  • Green apples with worms – small apples with a hole cut so that a lolly snake can be pushed in
  • Spiders – Oreo cookies with icing for eyes and pieces of licorice for legs

Party Favours

Each of my kids brought home a terracotta flower-pot full of goodies, a great alternative to plastic party bags. The treats inside included a packet of seeds to grow in the pot, some sidewalk chalk, some bug stickers, and a jellybean butterfly made from a ziplock bag, a peg and some pipe cleaner.

Once again Mummy T has shared some of the sources of her inspiration:
