Cross Stitch Rainbow Block 3

cross stitch rainbow block 3

Yay! The next Rainbow Block is ready to share!

This one is not exactly based on a quilt block but it could certainly become an easy block. I took the idea of a quilt block called Chinese Coins and played with it a little. Chinese Coins usually has rectangles of fabric stacked up, sometimes with a dividing strip in between each stack. Mine has three sections with the rainbow reversed in the middle section instead. I also adjusted the width of the green row in the middle to tie all the stacks together. I had fun creating this one!

In case you missed it I wrote about using a hoop for stitching over the weekend. I use an 8″ hoop that I’ve had for years, but there are lots of hoops out there. Do you use one? Or do you prefer to have your fabric loose as you stitch it?

Here’s the free chart for this block. Once again it is 26 squares by 26 squares, and I am leaving 4 squares in between each of my blocks so that the finished 9 blocks will form a grid.

Do you want to know what those skeins of DMC thread are hiding in the corner of the picture? The next block! I had hoped to get it finished over the weekend too but I was too busy bushwalking with the kids and hanging out with my extended family in the beautiful Bunya Mountains. If you’re ever out Dalby way, past Toowoomba in Queensland, the Bunyas are a lovely part of the world.

The most popular idea on the block. Rainbows attract the child in everyone. I love yours and your idea of cross stitching.
