Kids Games Craft: Joseph’s Coat

It is school holidays here and I’m helping out with Kids Games, a holiday program at our church. I’m in charge of organising craft for the kids to make each day – FUN!!

Across the five days the kids are talking about the story of Joseph from the Bible. If you’re not a big Bible fan, think Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dream Coat – thanks to Andrew Lloyd Webber. Joseph was his father’s favourite son so he was given a beautiful coat, but his brothers were jealous so the story did not go well from there.

Our first craft was related to Joseph’s coat. We decorated gingerbread men with colourful “coats”. The kids range in age from 5 to 13 years old so this was a project that they could all enjoy. The gingerbread men were bought ready to decorate with icing and mini M&M’s.  We even had some special gluten-free men and jelly beans for a couple of kids that need the gluten-free option.

These pictures are just a small sample of the 120 men that were made, but you can get an idea of the variety of creative cherubs we had! The kids loved getting to finish off the extra chocolates, and they took home their Josephs for afternoon tea.

What a great idea! I am so going to do this with my kids. I mean teaching a Bible story with multitudes of lollies. I can’t think of a better way of making a lesson sink in!
