Cricut Explore – do I need one?

by Tonya Grant |Filed Under: Crafts Get a Weekly Update of all Articles

So I got this email the other day about the Cricut Explore and it got me thinking – probably thinking too hard! “Do I need one of these?” “Would I really use it?” “Would it actually cost me even more money in extras to make it work well?” These are just some of my questions!

That’s why I need your help.

Here’s what the email says:

Cricut Explore cuts more than you can imagine! We have been pushing the Cricut Explore machine to its limits, and guess what we discovered? It can cut! It handles various types of paper, vinyl, foil, tape, and much more. Take a look at the complete Cricut Explore Cut List to explore the limitless possibilities of what you can create. Also, shop now and get free shipping on all orders of $35 or more, when you use the promo code: FREESHIP35 at checkout.

So what do you think? Do I need one?

Better yet, have you got one? Do you use it a lot or only a little? I’d be wanting to cut fabric I think so does it work well for that?  Is it really better for scrapbooking supplies instead? I’d love to hear your experiences and advice on this one. Leave me a comment or pop over tok Facebook for a chat.

Oh and BONUS!

You can use that promo code too: FREESHIP35 at checkout to get free shipping with orders of $35 or more (in the U.S.) Click here to shop.

Disclosure: There are affiliate links in this post – so if you’re thinking of buying one yourself, clicking through on these links will mean I get a small payment from Cricut, at no extra cost to you of course. In fact, that might help me justify buying one!

I just got a Silhouette Cameo about a month ago. Once you’re past the learning curve it’s great. I’m using it heaps for party stuff for a big party we’re having this weekend. Haven’t blogged about it yet but I will.

My grandchildren have one and they use it so much. They love doing crafts and it is great for cards and how many times I ask them to cut out something for me. Tags, circles – yes it is expensive but if you like crafting it is worth it.
We make butterflies, and they have wonderful temples. My grand daughter i 6 years old and knows how to use it. The four year old likes to push the button. The blade does last a long time. We decorated gift bags, you buy the plain ones and decorate it with a theme.

Thanks for the feedback, Gisela. It sounds like you’re a fabulous Grandmother – crafting with your grandchildren. They are very lucky!

I have a cricut expression, and you need to buy cartridges for it. Works great for paper, vinyl and such, but not fabric. The explore let’s you use svg files from the Internet, I think. If not, you need to subscribe to their image sight. You’ll want to be sure you can use any images anywhere. It does cut felt and fabric, I’ve heard. Biggest thing you need to be aware of is if you can use any images, or just theirs.

Thanks for the feedback, Cindy. Good to know about the images – I’ll have to look into that
