How do you make a challenge into a super challenge? Agree to participate then leave it until the LAST DAY to actually make something!!

Arghhhh! What was I thinking??!

Ribbons-Remnants-challenge_thumb

Sarah Lauren and Fabric Fusion, a fabulous Australian duo, created the ribbons and remnants challenge. I quickly agreed to join in and received a cute bundle of fabric, ribbons and more to play with. The challenge was to make anything with these bits and pieces, then share it along with some other talented crafty girls.

A Super Quick Table Mat

I’ve created a super quick table mat. It is based on a table runner I saw over on Sew Mama Sew from Love Patchwork and Quilting. I didn’t have enough fabric (or time!) to create the entire runner so I just created 3 of the blocks and made a smaller table mat. The dots and the hearts were part of the bundle I was sent but the flowers came out of my stash.

I incorporated some ribbon too. The green grosgrain ribbon was simply stitched on with zig zag stitch.

Can you see where else I used some grosgrain ribbon? That’s right! The binding is actually ribbon instead of the usual fabric that is used when quilting.

I made up this ribbon binding technique as I went along and it is by no means perfect. But I will have another go and take some pictures for you because I think you really could use ribbon for binding small quilts and save some time.

This took me only a couple of hours to create from cutting to finished so it would be a great last-minute gift for someone. The pattern is a free PDF over at Sew Mama Sew, and the fabrics and ribbons, of course, can be found at Sarah Lauren and Fabric Fusion. Both of these lovely online stores carry a large range and are extra helpful lovely ladies so if you need something special, they are the ladies to ask.

Now for your turn

All the projects from all the bloggers participating in this challenge are going to be pinned on Pinterest so pop over and “like” and share any that take your fancy. Personally, I’m going to be “hearting” all of them! Check out the board here.

Disclosure: I received this bundle as a gift. I was not paid to make my project or share it or mention anyone. It is all a bit of fun but feel free to check out the stores involved when you need fabric or ribbon next.
