Choose Rainbows

Sharing some deep thoughts on rainbows today…

Do you choose the rainbows in your life?

Choose the rainbow over the storm

I’ve just been listening the Problogger podcast with Darren Rowse, one of the few podcasts that I listen to every episode. He gives awesome practical advice for blogging and social media. This particular episode (number 45) was about the habits of lucky entrepreneurs and while it was interesting, I was most captured by one his closing remarks.

He talked about how all these habits of lucky business people were not personality traits but were, in fact, choices that they make. They choose to do these things to grow their businesses and find inspiration for changes.

It reminded me that so many things in life are about choice.

We can choose one thing or another – often one thing or the opposite. Many times our choice can be a positive one or a negative one. It might take us closer to being happy and fulfilled, or it might take us closer to things that we don’t really want in our life.

I’ve been pondering this concept a little lately as I think about the choices we make, and what it is like when we feel like we don’t have a choice. Perhaps a situation has been a certain way for so long that it seems like it can’t be any different. Perhaps we can’t see how we could do something to change it. Or perhaps all the options we see for change are too hard or too painful to really consider. We can’t see any way to make a positive choice and change things for the better.

This troubles me.

I’d like to think that we always have choice.

I’d like to think that even when something seems like it cannot be changed, that somehow it can – if we can just work out how. Even those things that have been that way for a long time or are heavily intertwined with other people surely cannot be set in stone, can they?

I want to think that even when the storms seem permanent and never-ending that I can look forward to the rainbows and the sunshine at some point.

I want to think that I can CHOOSE the rainbow over the storm.

I want to think that if I just continue to ponder and pray, there will be a choice that I can make that will bring about the best change.

What do you think?

31 Days of Rainbows

P.S. Yes, there is a particular situation that has prompted my deep thinking, but I’m not going to share details at this point. I know that you know, online friends, that The Crafty Mummy is more about creating and crafting, and not so much about my personal life. Nevertheless, I hope you’ll forgive my deep thinking out loud today. Perhaps you can find some encouragement  in knowing that I’m looking for the rainbows just as you might be.

I love that you are thinking about this, although sad that you are facing a storm right now. You’ve probably heard me say this before, but after going through a number of storms, I have discovered that while some things can’t be changed, our attitude towards them can. If we can embrace and focus on the positives or the tiny snippets of rainbows that sneak out of the storms, then the storm may not seem quite as harsh, or it may be more bearable. Praying has helped me too, with bearing the storms, and changing my attitudes. One more thing – sometimes those storms are the biggest learning times, and if we can embrace that part of them, I think it is one step closer to the rainbows. Praying for answers or rainbows for you. xx
