Crochet Rainbow Heart Blanket Finished

Yay! It is finished!

I started this Crochet Rainbow Heart Blanket back in April 2015 so it has taken me over a year to complete it, although that I did put it away when we started to hit the Queensland Summer months – way too hot for crocheting blankets! But with the cooler weather at the moment I was determined to get it done and be able to enjoy it.

I have shared lots of updates on social media – especially Instagram – and a couple of blog posts along the way.

You can see the other blog posts here, here, here, and here.

The yarn is MyBoshi from Spotlight. It is super thick and soft but sadly I haven’t seen it in store this year. I bought 3 balls each of 8 colours to create an extended rainbow and just as many balls of white. Later I went back and bought 6 balls each of turquoise and royal blue to finish the edges.

Find similar yarn at American Yarns:

The main heart pattern is a free one from MyPicot.com – find it here. It includes step by step photos for this design which changes colours every two rows.

My blanket has 38 hearts across each row and I used almost one ball for each row. I now have a collection of almost finished balls of rainbow yarn! (I think I’ll use them to cover coathangers.)

My finished blanket is approximately 70″ x 50″ (178cm x 127cm).

When I got to the end of my three sets of rainbow rows alternating with white, I really wanted a wider blanket but couldn’t buy all of the yarn colours. So I bought 6 balls each of two colours that I liked and finished with 4 rows of half double crochet in each colour. I went back to the “bottom” of the blanket and added the extra rows there as well so that my blanket became wide enough to run down a single bed – or perfect for stretching out on the couch!

This may be my new favourite project ever! I really do love rainbows and this is such a warm cuddly rainbow.
