I’m so pleased to welcome Bridget from FathomKid today. She has a wonderful tutorial to share with us.

Empathy is an attribute that every child needs to develop. It’s important for children to care about others and understanding how people feel. If children develop a strong sense of empathy it will change the fabric of who they are and how they relate to the world.

Designing simple activities that support children to think about others is a great way to start. I offer lots of crafty ways to teach young children important emotional skills at www.fathomkid.com, but here is an easy, fun and magical one!

These ‘Make-a-Wish Glow Stars will help your child think about the people they love and the needs of others.

  • PVA glue
  • Glitter or craft eyes
  • Scissors
  • A black marker

What To Do:

  • Put about half a cup of PVA glue on a plastic lid.
  • Add one spoon of glow in the dark paint.
  • Mix it together and spread it out into a thin layer.
  • Add glitter or wobbly eyes.
  • Put it in the sun for a few hours until the glue is completely dry.
  • Cut out glow stars with scissors. You may like to use a template to trace the stars.
  • Think up a kind thought or hope about someone you know and write it on the star.
  • Stick the glow stars on your window.

I hope these bring you and your kids as much fun as they did at our house!

My kids loved saying this old wishing poem:

Star light,
Star bright,
Wish I may,
Wish I might,
I wish for…
