Snail Day 3

by Tonya Grant |Filed Under: Quilting Tagged With: SnailDay Get a Weekly Update of all Articles

Time for another Snail Day.

This is my third snail.

Today, I wanted to share how helpful I have found my Bloc-Loc ruler in trimming that square for the tail. This ruler is specifically designed for trimming half square triangles (HSTs) with a ridge through the centre that butts up against the edge of the seam and markings to trim HSTs to size. LOVE it!

I’ve noticed that many quilt patterns that use half square triangles will deliberately create them too big then trim them down to size. I assume this helps end up with perfectly sized squares that fit with other pieces in the block. This special ruler makes that step a breeze!

I’m using a 6.5″ ruler which seems like it would quite a useful size for most patchwork projects. Shop here.

My snails feature the Wander Collection by Joel Dewberry Fabric for Freespirit Fabric.

Find the pattern on Craftsy here or Etsy here.

Don’t forget to check out all the other Snail Day snails over on Instagram – look for the #SnailDay hashtag.

It's Snail Day again! Let me tell you about the handy Bloc-Loc ruler I've been using for these cute snail blocks - it really makes them easy!
