Country Quilt

country applique quilt

This is one of the first quilts I ever made but I don’t think I’ve shared it here on the Crafty Mummy. It is an applique quilt with a very “country” theme. I made up the design as I went along after seeing lots of them in magazines at the time.

country aplique quilt house windmill

I started with the house and the windmill. All the applique is attached with hand blanket stitch although it was held in place with iron-on adhesive first.

country applique bird houses butterflies

Next I created the bird houses and butterflies and the “night sky”. The flower pots fit the theme while the other two blocks were to make it all fit together properly. I remember wanting to have a really fluffy quilt so the batting is very thick and must have been a pain to quilt in hindsight!

I had not done much binding before. I decided to round the corners so I didn’t have to work out how to turn corners. Although I can see the “mistakes” in this quilt, I still love the pictures and the story. We had moved to the country after living my whole life in the city so it holds memories of people and places.

Do you make quilts that hold a story or a memory?

I am just starting to learn to quilt I know a little from years of watching my grandmother.
This is just beautiful. I was wondering if you had a pattern for your beautiful quilt.
