The Crafty Mummy Book

create a blurb book

I did something kind of exciting recently…

I made a book!

Yes, a real sit-on-your-bookshelf book!

I used a website called Blurb where you can build a book in a couple of ways – online or by downloading software to your computer. It was pretty simple and the software was intuitive to use. It took a few hours but a lot of that time was spent deciding what to include rather than making the book!

Once the book is made, you upload it to Blurb then you can order your hard copy. Mine arrived in 4 days and looks very professional.

But what I was more interested in is that you can then make your book public and sell it through the Blurb bookstore. That has got to be much easier than going through the traditional publishing process! You can also convert your book to an eBook and make that available too. The graphics above are some of the tools you can use to promote your book and are made via the Blurb website.

Disclosure: When I attended Nuffnang Blogopolis earlier in the year, I received a discount voucher from Blurb to try making a book so I used it on this project. There was no expectation that I write about my experience but I love to share! All opinions are my own.

Sounds like fun and wouldn’t it be a buzz if someone bought a copy?

This is so exciting! My husband has been writing some stories that could make a wonderful book and I have thought about finding a way to make them into a book for him. Thank you for the idea!

This would be a great way, Michelle. It was pretty easy and there is a more advanced version of the software if you want to have more control of the layouts and so on.

This looks fantastic Tonya – thanks for sharing your experiences.

I read recently that Dooce turned her blog posts into a book for her daughter & I loved that idea, so now I will be looking at Blurb for when the time comes (& enough posts are written) to create a book.
