Christmas Pillowcases

Christmas pillowcase gingerbread houses lolliesI don’t usually get organised early for Christmas. Then as it gets closer, I wish that I had done various bits of sewing and decoration. Perhaps this year will be different…

Today I made a pillowcase out of Christmas fabric. It was in response to a Madeit enquiry, but it has turned out so well that I’m thinking I might make a couple for my kids.

Christmas pillowcase gingerbread housesThe fabric is from Spotlight where they have just recently got the first of their Christmas fabric in. The front has a fabulous border design of gingerbread houses with lollies over the rest of the fabric. I think it was designed for a table cloth with the border printed down each selvedge edge, but it is also perfect for a pillowcase. The back is in coordinating green fabric with gingerbread men and lollies. I figure what child wouldn’t want to go to sleep looking at lollies?

I have made what are called “housewife” pillowcases, which have a flap to stop the pillow slipping out. You can find a tutorial for housewife pillowcases here, and a simpler basic pillowcase tutorial here.

Look out for some of these in my shop in the next couple of weeks.

Do you make special things for Christmas? Do you start early or are you like me and usually leave things to last minute?

I am glad you are organized. I am so glad you posted about this. I have a stash of festive fabric that I would like to use up this year and a couple of these for my girls would be perfect. Thank you.

You’re welcome! I thought I had a stash of Christmas fabric but when I looked most of it was too small for pillowcases.

I’m thinking about Christmas bunting next…

      I hear you!
But it looks like these might do well in my shop so I’m blessing the lady who made the original enquiry.
