My Little Miss has started Physie (short for Physical Culture) this year and went to her first meet a couple of weeks ago. Not long after that Think Bowtique became a sponsor here at The Crafty Mummy blog and offered to send me some ribbon to play with.
“Perfect!”, I thought. I’ll make something to go in Little Miss’ hair to match her Physie leotard.
We received a gorgeous pack of ribbons and sparkles and I browsed all the tutorials on their website for inspiration. After much discussion we settled on the Loopy Flower Bow and I spent a lovely evening playing with ribbon in front of the TV.
The tutorial was easy to follow with pictures to help get it looking right. It really only took a half an hour or so, even with sealing the ends with FrayStop. We’ve even got a crocodile clip to add to the back so we can put it in her hair easily.
But what I didn’t know was that Physie has restrictions on how fancy the hair decorations can be. {insert sad face here} Apparently our flower will be too fancy and we are not allowed to have sparkles.
New mum mistake!
Nevertheless, Little Miss loves the clip and luckily has lots of clothes this colour in her wardrobe so it will definitely get worn.
Luckily we also have some simple satin ribbon which we are allowed to wear so I now have one evening before the next Physie comp to create a “simple” bow for her hair. (Look out for the pics on that one next week.)
In the meantime, if you want to make this gorgeousness, check out the tutorial here: How to Make a Loopy Flower Bow. We used 9mm Double Sided Satin Ribbon in Turquoise and White plus a 23mm Rhinestone Flatback in the middle. We added a white alligator clip as well.
There are so many other pretty things on the Think Bowtique website that I’m itching to order some more to play with! Feathery bits and pieces, felt circles, clips and headbands – basically anything you could possibly want to make a gorgeous hairpiece, fascinator or hair decoration. Let’s face it: you would pay megabucks to buy these cuties at the local handmade markets, but they are quite easy to put together yourself. Melissa was super helpful in advising me on the best sizes of ribbon and bling, and while I thought I needed “aqua” ribbon, she was smart enough to recognise I needed “turquoise” ribbon. Great to have someone who really knows their products and is happy to email 10 times to help me choose the right things!
So pop over and browse around – I’m sure you’ll find something you need for your little miss (or yourself!)
Disclosure: I was gifted these ribbons by the lovely folks at Think Bowtique – Thank you, Melissa! I was excited to find that they had such detailed tutorials on their website. All opinions are my own – I truly do love their site and will be shopping more.

Love it, Tonya.
I’ll be playing with some ribbon from Think Bowtique later in the week to share a tutorial on And Sew We Craft.

Such a cute little ribbon, and it looks so difficult. Too bad for the regulations. This sounds like a great Christmas stocking stuffer for little girls.

It would be a great Christmas gift idea – or for school fetes I think in school colours
