Perler Bead Bracelets

bracelets made with perler hama pyssla beads

Little Miss and I have been making bracelets. We have a have jar of Pyssla beads from Ikea – also known as perler or hama beads – that hardly ever gets played with. We have made ornaments with them and just simple pictures that get melted with the iron to hold them together. But I recently saw a bracelet made with perler beads and thought it would be a perfect school holiday craft. I was inspired by Pink Stripey Socks who has written a fabulous tutorial. These bracelets use elastic and a large needle so they are great for kids to do. We used some shirring elastic that I had in my stash.

Initially we tried to design our bracelets on paper. We used grid paper and coloured pencils – which was fun all by itself! But when we tried to transfer our designs into bracelets, the beads don’t line up quite like the grid paper. The rows are offset from each other. So in the end we abandoned our paper designs and just played with designs as we threaded.

The end result? Super cute stretchy bracelets for Spring! I can’t decide whether I like the striped one or the chevron one best. What do you think?

That is such a neat idea for those beads! My girls used to love playing with them, but just sold the last of their kits a couple of weeks ago! Maybe we could just try these bracelets with other beads and shirring elastic – fab idea!

Hope you have a fabulous week!

They look great! Love the colors you chose. Very pretty and chic. It’s tough to choose, but I’m a bigger fan of the chevrons!!

Love them both. I remember these beads from when I was at school.
