Easy Crochet Leg Warmers

These super easy crochet leg warmers will be done in just a couple of hours and use only 2 balls of yarn – great for beginners and snuggly for dancers.

Easy Crochet Leg Warmers Pink

Don’t these leg warmers look snuggly!? (And don’t they take you back to the 80’s!?)

I mentioned last week that my Physie girl wanted some leg warmers as the temperature starting dropping here for Winter so I had collected a bunch of tutorials and patterns for easy crochet leg warmers – see this post for all the ideas I gathered.

Although she was keen for a particular shade of hot pink to match her club uniform, I talked her into the snuggly yarn I already had in the stash – leftovers from this shawl a couple of years back.

These leg warmers are super easy and really could have been created in a couple of hours if I had not been so distracted by Instagram!

I started with the instructions from Crochet B.Hooked on Youtube:

For my 12-year-old, I tried a starting chain of 32 but it was too big, so I ended up with a starting chain of 27. My yarn is Moda Vera Shiver from Spotlight which does not have a weight marked but is quite thick so I’d guess 12 ply, or Bulky for my U.S. readers. It is 100% acrylic and very soft. I used one 100g ball for each leg warmer.

I used two crochet hooks – a size 6.0 (U.S.: J/10; U.K.: 4) for the first 13 rows, then a size 5.0 (U.S.: H/8; U.K.: 6) for the last 9 rows. I did 22 rows all up after the starting chain. I switched hook sizes to make the lower section a little more fitted so it tapered to her ankle. She didn’t want them too bulky.

Variations:

  • Try switching colours to create stripes
  • You could even just have a stripe of contrasting colour at the top or the bottom –  a great way to use up scraps!
  • You could quite easily do a row of double crochet then a row of single crochet to create some texture
  • This bulky yarn crocheted up quickly but you could make these in a much finer yarn and they would be a little more elegant.

Hey Tonya! Thanks so much for linking up last week. With all that we both had on in the lead up to the retreat, I didn’t get a really good chance to check who linked up last week. I need to make some of these for my little dancer, the girl one. It was so lovely meeting you in person on the weekend. Finally, a face to the name. I’m featuring this one at tomorrow’s party too.

    Talk soon, Anne x
