January Quilt Block

craftsy BOM 2013 january log cabin

A few weeks back I wrote about signing up for the Craftsy Free Block of the Month program which I promptly did then forgot about. So as we hit February, I decided to get on with it and make the January block.

I’ve decided to make a quilt I’ve been admiring from far for a while: one with a light grey background instead of white. Hopefully I will end up with something fresh and modern. I have started out teaming it with some Denyse Schmidt prints from Spotlight in greens. I think I’ll do the second block in shades of red.

Online Quilting Class
The first block is a Log Cabin and I found the video tutorial and the PDF instructions very easy to follow. The tutor, Laura Nownes,  adds in all kinds of extra tips that are extra helpful to someone like me who has not done a lot of formal quilting classes. After only one block I can see I am going to learn a lot!

While I was quilting, I took a little video on Vine which you can see if you click through below – what a fun app!
