For my latest crochet blanket project, I have created the foundation row without chain – so much easier on the second row!
Valentine’s Day turned out to be the perfect day for me to start a new crochet blanket for someone I love!
This next afghan blanket is going to be a mixture of navy blue, lime green, chocolate brown and stone. These were the colours requested by my sweet son and since I actually had the colours he wants and didn’t have the colours that my daughter wants for her blanket, his will be the next project.
Note to Self: Must go shopping for more yarn for Little Miss’ blanket before all the yarn disappears from the stores again!
Anyway, I started with the navy and decided to try out a new method for starting.
Previously I have created a chain of crochet the length I wanted for my blanket, then created the next row in my chosen stitch. I always find that first row really tricky as my chain is often a little tight, no matter how much I try to keep it loose as I’m making it.
So this time I went back to my Crochet Tutorials and Inspiration Board on Pinterest to find a tutorial I knew I had pinned for a method of creating the foundation row without using chain.
Find the tutorial for Chainless Foundation over at Little Monkeys Crochet. I have seen other tutorials that are similar but I loved the pictures on this one. I found it so easy to recreate Rebecca’s steps and quickly got the hang of creating my foundation row. I made mine double crochet but she also has tutorials to create a Half Double Crochet Foundation and Single Crochet Foundation in the same post.
It did take longer than creating a chain, but I saved so much time as I created the second row that it was totally worth it.
